Cody was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolism back in late June. Since then he has been on medication and had every test under the sun ran looking for answers. So we waited. We waited for the blood thinners to resolve these clots and for him to get better.
On July 30th Cody collapsed at home and was taken by ambulance to Raleigh Duke, where he stayed for a few days. His official diagnosis is Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) which refers to high blood pressure in the lungs' arteries. It is caused by blood clots and related scarring.
On Wednesday he was told he would need to have a surgery called PTE in hopes they would be able to clean the vessels of his lungs. Cody is so far advanced that they weren’t able to save his lungs and the surgery was not a success despite his amazing teams best efforts. Cody now is in need of a double lung transplant list.
On September 2nd he was officially activated on the transplant list and began waiting for that call. On September 9th Cody received the amazing gift and got 2 new lungs. As of today he is awake and walked for about 30 feet and said hello to his dad.
Along with this journey Cody has undoubtedly incurred one heck of a hospital bill and will have to have a lot of medications once released in 3-4 weeks.
His dad has also been by his side everyday and this means taking a lot of time off work.
We are asking anything you can help to alleviate some of the financial worry he will be facing when he comes home would be amazing and if you can’t give we ask for prayers and good vibes.
